There are more than 40 different kinds of nutrients in food and they can generally be classified into the following 7 major groups:

  • Carbohydrates
  • Proteins
  • Fats
  • Vitamins
  • Minerals
  • Dietary fibre
  • Water



Common foods with carbohydrates include:
  • Grains, such as bread, noodles, pasta, crackers, cereals, and rice.
  • Fruits, such as apples, bananas, berries, mangoes, melons, and oranges.


Minerals

We need minerals to build strong teeth and bones, control body fluids inside and outside cells and turn the food we eat into energy.

Minerals are found in foods like cereals, bread, meat, fish, milk, dairy, nuts, fruit and vegetables.

  • milk
  • fortified margarine
  • yoghur
